Driving Social Transformation Through Kingdom Values

Founded in 2018 as the social intervention arm of The Finishing Church, the Finishers Initiative for Social Transformation (FIST Africa) was established to advance the Kingdom’s mission of societal transformation. As a not-for-profit organization, FIST Africa addresses critical societal challenges through civic engagement, community mobilization, advocacy, and direct interventions, funded by tithes, offerings, and external partnerships.

Key Initiatives and Impact

  1. Women’s Business Empowerment Project
Focusing on rural women and widows, this initiative empowers participants with business skills and financial support. To date, 11 women have launched or expanded businesses, positively impacting their households.
  2. iLearn Hub
Targeting unemployed youth and early-career professionals, iLearn Hub offers employability training and job opportunity access. Over 1,000 young people have been empowered, paving the way for brighter futures.
  3. Rural Intervention Projects
These projects provide food, sanitary products, and medical supplies to underserved communities, including IDP camps. Approximately 8,000 individuals across communities like Gishiri, Mpape, and Kabusa in Abuja have benefited.
  4. Education Interventions
With 18.3 million out-of-school children in Nigeria, FIST Africa addresses this crisis through initiatives like:
  • EduRevamp: In partnership with the Madiba Foundation, resources and research have improved conditions in schools like Kabusa Primary School.
  • EduFund: Scholarships have enabled 50 students to stay in school, with structured support for six students currently progressing to higher education.
  1. “I Am the New Nigeria” Campaign
This nationwide campaign fosters patriotism, integrity, and civic responsibility among young Nigerians. Reaching over 2 million people, it promotes value re-orientation and behavioral change, with plans to extend the initiative to schools.

A Catalyst for Change

FIST Africa has directly impacted over 9,000 lives and reached millions through civic engagement campaigns. By empowering women, youth, and underserved communities, we continue to advance our Kingdom mandate of transformation. Together with our partners, we are scaling our impact to rebuild lives and nations.

First, we must understand church is not a building, a Sunday school class, or a service time. According to scripture, a church gathering is a group of people coming together in Christ and the people are the church. Jesus shows us in Matthew 18 that a gathering can be as little as two people together.

The service usually involves the singing of hymns, reading of scripture verses and possibly a psalm. If the church follows a lectionary, the sermon will often be about the scripture lections assigned to that day. Eucharistic churches have usually Holy Communion either every Sunday or several Sundays a month.

There are no rules as to what to bring to church, other than your self, an open heart and mind. Some bring a bible, if you’re going to engage in bible study.

If you want to know how to dress for church, something modest and comfortable should be fine. Generally, graphic tees that show off sports team logos or bands should never be worn to church. Solid-colored tops are fine, and even something with a pattern should be OK to wear.

Ask your friends if they have a place to worship the Savior and invite them to come worship with you, especially at times like Christmas and Easter. If they aren’t Christians, ask them if they’d like to learn more about Jesus Christ and invite them to experience a Christian worship service with you. Remember to show the same respect for their beliefs that you hope they will give yours.

There are many questions Christians are asked that the individual Christian is unable to answer. It happens all the time.
